The planes

The planes

For the big journeys when you've only got a few weeks there's no option but to take the plane - a bit expensive but you do get a personal hello from the pilot.

The public bus, there are a few options for travelling in the Philippines, Tricylce, boat or jeepney. The best seats are definately on top, if you can hang on over the unpaved roads!

Eoghan and Mikey

Eoghan and Mikey

Enjoying another cold san miguel, 40p a bottle in this expensive restaurant. I think this was at the end of our day diving on the wrecks, very eery swiming in through torpedo holes, around parts of the turbine and through the engine rooms, it was like a cross between caving and diving, felt like James Bond. Eoghan was a mad Irish bloke who we met in Malapuasca we followed him to Palawan. Cheers to him for many funny nights on the sauce, and for trying to get Mikey and me organised.

Sunset from our room in Busuanga island

Sunset from our room in Busuanga island

I know we're home now but thought Id finish of the phlog properly. We decided to move on from the paradise beaches of Malapuasca, after all there are 7000 islands that make up the philippines so we should at least attempt to see some others.

We flew over to Palawan, this is actually Coron Town on Busuanga island, north of Palawan. This area is famed for the limestone formations of Coron Island and the many Second WW Japanese ship wrecks which make for some exciting diving.

Hello

Hopefully none of you saw the spam that the comments got infected with. Ive had to take off the option to leave comments until we can get to the bottom of it. Anyway you can always e-mail us a comment - much more personable!

Were over in Busuanga at the minute - cant get my camera to work so no photos but its beautiful. Been on a couple of James Bond stlye wreck dives. swimming through tiny tropedo holes and through engine rooms full of scholes of fish - very eerie and certainly sorts out the bouyancy issues...Off to Palawan mainland tomorrow for more beach action. See you all in just over a week!

Diving in The Philippines

Diving in The Philippines

This is our dive Banca. We've done 3 dives on the island, including a dive to find Thresher sharks (as is pictured on the boat). We saw one do a couple of circles of us! They are not harmful to humans, but they are big enough to look scary. I think they are quite rarely seen as they usually inhabit deep waters. Very cool to see them - also saw some reef tip sharks, sea horses, and all the usual delights.

The boats in the philippines all seem to be this 'banca' style, with a narrow hull and legs out to the side to stabilise it (suposedly). We will probably get very used to these over the next week or so, as it looks like it will be our main mode of transport round the islands. Fingers crossed the waters are calm...

Mikey and the Bancas of Bounty Beach

Mikey and the Bancas of Bounty Beach

We've spent the last 3 nights on Bounty Beach on the tiny island of Malpuasca north of Cebu. As you can guess its a tropical paradise. We had a hut right on the beach for 5pounds a night.... Why did we leave? Well there are another 6,999 islands to explore and we've only got 2 weeks. We're on our way now to Palawan, the final frontier (or is that star trek?). Anyway with any luck we'll get there tomorrow but we'll probably be out of internet connection for a while, as its pretty remote. Hope its stopped raining at home!

The Philippines Taxi rank

The Philippines Taxi rank

We've arrived in the Philippines. We're in Cebu island in the Visayas where this photo was taken on route to the tiny island of Malpuasca. These are tricycles (actuall a motorbike with sidecar) I think the record I've seen so far is 5 on the motorbike and another 6 in the sidecar!

So far it's very hot and a bit stormy, no typhoons yet though...

What a beaut!

What a beaut!

Me looking a bit unsure what to do next. This snapper looks like a decent size until you remember how small I am! - he got thrown back to live another day.

Snapper for Tea!

Snapper for Tea!

Fishing in Sydney Harbour, In Riles's secret spot.

Everyone got a bite, unfortunately this snapper was too small to be legal, so it got a kiss and thrown back in (Rex Hunt would have been proud).

We all had a few bites, Although mostly from pesky puffa fish, not fun trying to release a fish as its trying to blow itself up.

Riles caught us a legal Flounder for tea!, well maybe for starters.

But you should have seen the one that got away...
