So, y'all know that Phlog is now part of 20six and since the merging, I've been flat-out working on a few internal projects and preparing the site for the move to its lovely new server-home (a cool FreeBSD based cluster located in Germany for those who care about those things).

I know I've been a little quiet for the last month or so, but things are moving rapidly on phlog development again. A neat little addition that you've probably not noticed (I need to give it a link & icon or something) is an RSS feed of comments in your phlog at http://phlog.net/latest_comments.php?user=username&format=atom

For those of you that haven't discovered the joys of RSS feeds, they are simpy a way of allowing computers to talk to one-another. You run an application called an 'RSS Reader' on your computer (such as the gorgeous NewsFire for Mac, or the (not so gorgeous, but still very good) Feed Demon" for Windows) and give it a list of RSS feeds. The application then checks your 'feeds' every 10-30 minutes and notifies you of any new articles. So, by adding a particular user's phlog (with a URL like http:phlog.net/syndicate.php?user=alan ) or by adding your entire friends list (with a URL like http://phlog.net/friends.php?format=atom&user=alan (of course, substitute alan with your username) ), you can stay on top of your favourite phlogs without having to visit the site every hour or so.

By adding your comments as a feed (with a URL like http://phlog.net/latest_comments.php?format=atom&user=alan - again, substitute your username!) you will be immediately notified by your news reader when someone posts a comment in your phlog, even if it is to a post from years ago.

If you've never given an RSS reader a try, you really should - you'll never look back.
