deep place of silence

deep place of silence

There is no need to go to India or anywhere else to find peace. You will find that deep place of silence right in your room, your garden or even your bathtub.

I hang out with some photo-hobbyist friends and one time we ogled at a camera shop selling Leicas. I was flipped with the exorbitant prices. In my dreams! When i asked my friend why Leica's are sooooo expensive he said you're paying for the highest quality and added that there's that certain "Leica look". With your superb pics, now i'm beginning to understand what he meant by that "Leica look". Bravo!

Sendai, I'm glad you wrote this, and I must say that your friend very well summarized the topic.

Yes, Leica cameras are very expensive, when purchased new, but it is possible to get second-hand cameras in perfect working condition that are 50 years old for as little as 500$. Sure, this is still big money for many of us, but not much more expensive than a Camphone or digital camera, that are outdated 6 months later ...

As for the Leica look, it is only due to the lens, not to the camera body. It is possible to buy cheap camera bodies that will carry lenses in Leica M mount: Bessa R2A, Bessa R3A for example

My neighbor found in the attic of her father, who recently passed away, a Leica IIIa bought back in 1932, together with a old Summar lens (Henri Cartier Bresson used this lens at some point in his career): I tested this camera for her, and after some cleaning and lubrication, it still works perfectly ! No need to explain you the emotion she feels when she now uses this camera, and digs into the old family negatives

All Leica lenses and cameras produced since 1903 can still be repaired, and camera parts are available !!

You have to see the purchase of a Leica as a lifetime investment, and seen from this perspective, the investment is pretty cheap (cheaper than a piano, just to take one example)

Kind Regards - François

Thanks for taking time to share more about this gem, Leica. How i wish i could stumble on a second-hand Leica within that $500 price range. There's a pretty high demand here in Japan which i guess pushes the prices up since a lot of people (esp those who are already retired) are more than willing to unload their cash.

Still, I'm saving for one. :)
