First day of snow (xii)

One last shot, driveway before clearing away the snow, and the cat cleared itself out after meowing complainingly that it thought the snow very well could have waited until just before Christmas. As for me, it's now past 4am and it's anyone's guess why I'm not in bed yet. Being addicted to Phlog might have something to do with that ;)

Twelve pics in this series, posted in chronological order and should thus be read backwards, starting twelve posts down the list from here.

One of my four-legged neighbours stopping by to say hello and express an uncertain disapproval of this icky white stuff that kept getting into his whiskers.

And yes! I made it home safely. Although that is a rather loose application of the word safe. I didn't make it entirely home at first though. There's a rather steep bit of road the last few hundred yards before I get to my house, and spinning wheels by previous drivers had rendered the surface slippery as soaped ice. Thus I ended up nicely parked at the supermarket half a mile from my house, had to walk home and carry the winter wheels on foot, change the wheels in the snow, then drive off to a petrol station a few miles away to have the tire pressure double-checked. I was done and home around 2am, had to clear out the driveway (after this pic was taken) and could finally leave the outside world for a nice cup of tea around 3am. I'm beat!

Tracks like these at the beginning of winter usually tell us that traffic is going to be murder tomorrow. Fortunately I start late this week, so that there's hope that rescue personell have cleared the more insane ones out of the road by the time I have to leave home.

At 9:30pm it was getting to the point where those of us who drive to work were getting worried about driving home again, seeing as some of us hadn't yet changed to winter tires. Dreadlord here is one of them, and I am another. Neither of us was looking forward to testing the sudden drastic change in driving conditions.
