The Birkin Lives....

    The Birkin Lives....

Sure Birkin may sound a lot like Merkin (thanks for the image OzDJ) but no whatter what the name Bryn and his merry band of car builder mates (myself included) have got it running and on the road.

There's still plenty of work to finish up the car but at least it's running and driveable while we worry about things like setting ride-heights, getting working instruments and sort out bits and pieces...

    Some videos are here:

Probably a bit too much shake in the vids, but hey was using the LG KU990 mobile phone for it!

    Birkin Progress...

When Bryn told me the factory "turtle shell" fitted under the Birkin bonnet I started making a point of always clipping it back over, ultimately I feel that the car needs this level of finish to "woo" the consulting engineer and registration authorities.

The classic "Oh they've used the cover, that's neat. they must be hiding something!" The the cover gets removed and "it's factory perfect, the must not have cut corners elsewhere"

We didn't cut corners but we also just like to make a good presentation.

A slightly wider shot showing the lack of junk around the car and a better idea of how neatly the wiring drops off the back of the motor into the chassis fuse box.

We've just cleared all the tools off the scuttle areas I've finally finished wiring the chassis loom into the Ford Engine Management loom.

Bryn now needs to get some water pipes set up and finish some of the assembly...

Focus Leftovers... (Working on the Birkin)

In the space of about 10 hours thus far Bryn and I have been cutting down the Ford Focus wiring loom into something that better suits his Birkin S3.

This is the (neatly wound up) box of wire that we've cut from the donor loom and won't be needing.

    Top effort!

Tonight we've managed to split out from the factory loom the injectors and ignitors. Then I've built a new loom for the injectors and started preparing to loom up the ignitors.

Istead of trying to make the factory "ring" work for this we're making to forks up each path and using a combo of custom and facotor Ford bracketing to hold it all down.

Also done by not really visible is the Starter and Positve power wiring for the Starter and Alternator to the Battery. This has included merging the factory Ford loom with the chassis loom.

Crank angle sensor and knock sensor are also in place and wired
