CAPTAINS LOG DAY 3
...Captains log day 3. An easy journey down the coast today...visiting some coastal villages (with 0 phone coverage). The day began at Hoi An beach, a lovely beach full of sand and water with waves...not to similar to other beaches along the coast, but nice all the same. 10km trek through back roads we travelled viewing some amazing scenes. Firstly a pottery barn, and this ain't no IKEA. The old lady made the pots, the younger old lady spun the wheel with her right foot, whilst preparing the next bit of clay, then within 5 minutes it was done. Next pot please. Moving further down we were invited into a families home to watch rice paper being made...clever doesn't even begin to describe it. The journey way way from battle keep us moving south towards My Son. For those of you just joining this...My son is some 122km south of Da Nang, a large hold for the US during the Vietnam (not sure why they were here) war! My Son is one moving and sad place. It was the location of the most brutal massacre during the war. March 16th 1968, US troops marched into this village killing every one and thing that moved...women, children, cows all wore the fury of US troops. In total 504 people from the village died. Lets take a moment.
After this we regrouped and headed inland towards our final destination of Quang Nhi. Not a tourist in site...and ya thing we don't stand out! After 50km today we had finished what was a very memorable ride through Vietnam. At now its beer time.
The Stats! Total Km travelled (we say 250) but closer to 240. Injuries accounted for 0, bums hurting 3, quads screaming 6, will we do it again...absolutely.
(Again sorry for no pictures...coverage issues)
