Gaga over Gaudí — Sagrada Família (2)
Over one century later, and the beat goes on... "They" say all the construction should be done within 50 to 80 years! Sheesh, I guess I won't live to see this finished!
Anyway, we opted to climb the dark and narrow spiral staircase up the tower on the Nativity Side, instead of taking the lift. We reached the first 3rd of the 300+ steps of the stairway and this is a view from that level. These are two of the pinnacles rising from the side nave. They are crowned with "fruits" made of brightly colored tiles. Why fruits? Hmm... why not?

Gaudi had such imagination. Great shots I'm enjoying one of my all time favourite cities all over again.

Moltes gràcies! Exploring the Sagrada Familia and its every nook and cranny as much as possible was an intellectual and visual adventure in itself and I'm just happy to share it with you. It's also now one of my all-time favorite cities, lorenzo. I would love to go back again someday and delve some more into the details of the masterpieces that were born from the deep deep pools of Gaudí's fantastically-fertile imagination! :-)

Yup, yup, nice framing on this one. And thanks for "bringing" us to Barcelona. Actually i had thought of having a sidetrip to Barcelona (and try ryan air kc cheap! hehe) before going to Rome but apparently my tolerance for all-things-beautiful wasn't that high. After seeing Notre Dame then the Bible almost literally come to life in paintings at the Italy section of the Louvre, i had enough. I had enough of museums and art, to absorb all those beauty in such a short span of time, that one afternoon i just escaped to Galleries Lafayette to 'unthink' only to find myself staring at the ornate ceiling again. And with these gaugy Gaudi masterpieces in Barcelona, i don't think i'm ready to see them yet.

I know exactly what you mean, jane!!! Your eyes and your mind just get so UMAY from the richness of your surroundings. Nagsasawa ka na sa sobrang kultura at sining kahit saan ka tumingin? Yep! Happened to me, too. And all I wanted to do afterwards was just sit quietly in a roadside café emptying my mind and doing nothing but watching people passing by.
