Happy Independence Day
Flag and soldier from the island of Corregidor (a.k.a. The Rock).

Sunrise at the Surigao harbor
It is advised that one wakes up early if one wants to make the most out of travelling. This also gives good opportunities to take pictures.

Self portrait
This was taken on Dacu island, Siargao during sunset. I had already taken over 20 shots of the setting sun and wanted to take a pictue of something different...I turned around and there I was.

Creature feature
Hermit crab from Siargao.
It took a while for him to come out of his shell for me to take a picture of him -- but it was worth the wait.

Surf's up
Cloud 9 is where the best waves are in Siargao.
Although September is the real surf season month, we managed to catch a few of the locals catch some waves.
I wanted to try it out myself, but after seeing all the jagged rocks, I decided against it.

Off to cloud 9
The kids here have a different sport.
We were told that a lot of foreigners just leave their surf boards with the locals when they leave.

Naked island jog
The island is called Hubad. Its part of a group of islands off the coast of Siargao. Its called Hubad because there's not much growing on this sandbar like island. The other 2 islands are called Guyam (small) and Dacu (big).
It took me 1 minute and 20 seconds to run around Hubad island. This gives an idea of the size of the island.

No choice
There's only 1 airline that flies to Surigao.
The plane was OK, but they were consistently late - 1 hour delayed to and from Surigao.
Bright side: at least there's a direct flight to Surigao. I found out that people used to fly to Butuan and travel 2 hours by land before Asian Spirit started flying there.

Off to Siargao
At first I thought Siargao was in northern Luzon.
Then I learned that it was in Mindanao.
Then I thought that it was just another name for Surigao.
Finally I found out that Siargao is a separate island from Surigao, but is still part of Surigao.

May Flowers (18)
How do you spell it again? Bougainvillea? I like it when they come in 2-3 colors from one shrub.

Peak-a-boo sunset
Spot the hot dot.
Sunset from the slopes of Batangas.

May Flowers (17)
These yellow flowers are really a sight to see, especially when they have fully engulfed its tree.

Batangas Moon
Here's an experiment that went well (?), kinda.
I set my camera on slow shutter, then placed it on the ground, aiming for the moon. Then...

May Flowers (16)
Makahiya with morning dew.

With a little help from technology...
...this "banga" will flow continuously.
At first look, this water container looked magical/miraculous. But closer inspection revealed that the faucet was connected to a pipe, which entered through the back.

May Flowers (15)
This gerbera is the third I've posted and comes in pink.
I like them because they look like small frozen fireworks.

With a little help from technology...
...this old "lampara" can stay on the whole night. Provided the bulb be replaced and there will be no power outages.

May Flowers (14)
They also come in different colors.

May Flowers (13)
When I first saw these flowers, I thought they were made of paper.

Where's my camera (case)?
Aha! And where do you think you're going?
This penguin was spotted "guarding" a kiddie pool in Batangas. It's a great way to keep bags and other stuff dry.
