iPhone 3G launch (Sydney) - iHype.

The Vodafone store on George Street has been open since the wee hours and there is still at least 300 people in the queue. They are being sustained with free coffee and hot pastries to keep the cold at bay.

This bloke got the last WHITE iPhone which Vodafone had in stock at this store. That was enough for the gathered press to go apeshit with their cameras.

Now I'm outside the Apple Store in George Street, 250m away from the Vodafone Store. Must be 1500+ people queued all the way around the block - and inside the glass monolith - to get their hands on an iPhone.

Must be at least 30 police on hand to help manage the crowd and keep the footpaths clear. (Apple Store)

Across the road from the Apple Store is the Telstra T-Life store. About 300 people queued up here and it feels very sedate/controlled.

One at at time please, folks. This weedy store employee at T-Life was bouncing anyone that tried to bypass the queue.

Meanwhile, in the Imperial Arcade, the Optus store has less than 200 people queued up. At least these folks are smart enough to stand in air-conditioned comfort for their JesusPhone.

The shop is managing customers in "batches", raising the shutter every 20mins or so to let another six punters through the door.

The DJs on stage aren't bad. The coffee is terrible. But these hot little apple pies are sensational!

...and they queue from the other side of the Optus store, too. Will be interesting to see how the other shop-keepers feel about the situation in an hour or so when they open up.

LMAO! Less than 500m from *ALL* of the other stores photographed this morning is this Strathfield shop which has also opened early to feed the consumer iPhone frenzy.

The queue of *SIX* people is moving very quickly and the store has four staff on the counter serving!

Friday meeting #1

Reigning in the project scope and trying to shave about $500K of "fat" from the business case.

Friday meeting #2

Thankfully, this one is over coffee. Six of versus one guy from another part of the business. Attempting to knock a further $400-500K off the project between flat whites.

Lunch for Tom.

After 34 years with the company, Tom has been given the arse. Getting together for lunch with him at the Albion Hotel today to wish him all the best.

It's NOT an iPhone....

....but I did get something from Telstra today (shame it's only for work).

Telstra Next-G (HSDPA) card and RSA token.
