Doing the tourist thing Day 1 2/16

Got up this morning after a bit of interrupted sleep. Someone at the hotel got a room number mixed up and called and knocked on our door early in the morning. Nonetheless the room was quiet and we slept well. For breakfast, went to Afterwords just around the corner. It's a cafe connected to a bookshop -- something becoming rarer and rarer now a days. Had a good breakfast and then set out to see the sights. Our first stop was the White House. They were setting up for Presidents' Day festivities. Took the obligatory picture through the fence, wondering what would happen if we dropped our phones.

We then hit the mall and wandered through some of the Smithsonian. We peeked in the museum of American History, seeing various artifacts, such as Archie Bunkers chair, and the original Kermit the Frog. We then went to the air and space museum, which we both hadn't been to since we were kids. We then walked through the sculpture garden near the museum of natural history, and had lunch in the cafe there.

Off to Washington

For February break, we decided to do a restaurant tour of Washington. Things have been hectic at work for the both of us, so we decided to get away for a few days. Neither of us has been to DC in over a decade, so we figured we were due. We also wanted to try some of Jose Andres restaurants. We've enjoyed watching his show on PBS and love his cookbooks, so we figured it was time to try his food.

We flew from Boston on JetBlue into Reagan. Fying from terminal C, we figured we would do our usual pre flight dinner at Legal Seafoods, but discovered that they had closed the restaurant in terminal C. We ended u having to go over to terminal B (not too far a walk) and ate at Legal C Bar, which must be their replacement for Legal Seafoods. Was good, but much smaller space. They must not be doing as much business at the airport as they used to. The flight was quick and no problems, although it was a bit bumpy landing. We took the metro to our hotel. Wasn't too bad a trip, but long waits between trains. Finally got to our hotel on DuPont Circle. Nice place, and comfortable room. Looking forward to a good nights sleep.
