Walking along the River Seine.
Enjoyed a half day in Paris, while waiting for my flight home to Manila.
This is how the barracks that contained the toilets look like. This served thousands of prisoners!
This is how the barracks look inside. Each bed level contained 8
people! It comfortably fits only 2. The brick structure running along
the center of the room is the furnace which didn't help much in keeping
them warm during the winter.
The wooden barracks at Auschwitz II. There were many more in the camp,
but these were burned down by the Nazis towards the end of the war.
Once you enter the main gate, the railroad tracks lead either left or
right. If you were directed towards the left, you were one of the \"lucky\"
20% whose life had been spared. You were brought to the registration
bldg which used to be on the left side so you could be registered to
stay in the camp either for hard labor or medical experiments. The bldg
was burned down by the Nazis in their attempt to get rid of all the
evidence in the camp. Now if you were directed to the right, you were part of
the 80% found too weak to work in the camp and you were led to the gas
chambers and crematoriums.
Auschwitz II - the main extermination camp. This is the bigger camp
(compared to Auschwitz I which appears in my colored pics).
This is the main entrance gate where the train carrying the Jewish prisoners would arrive. If it seems familiar, it's probably because it was a typical scene shown in war
movies.
Paths leading to the exit of Prague Castle. The streets are lined with
little homes that have been converted to shops. One of the homes belonged to Frank Kafka. It's now a store/museum dedicated to him.
